PRESIDENT'S DAY SCALE MEET MARCH 2005
During the regatta, the weather was absolutely beautiful. Shirt sleve weather....the kind of day that makes living in Arizona worth it! A slight wind sometimes tested a skipper's ability. As with real boats....sometimes one needs to keep up a certain amount of speed in order to be able to maneuver reliable! Thinking back to years ago when we started the competition scale course....it struck me this time...that the level of skill exhibited in maneuvering our scale boats is way above what it was then. And particularly, the ability to back ships into a slip in the harbor.
The level of craftsmanship has always been extraordinary! The detail of Ben Kowaloski's Malihini is typical of that level of achievement.
Perhaps, given that sometimes the weather seems an impossible advesary and ucooperative; we shoud permanently note, that this time, with rain occuring the night before; IT WAS A REALLY NEAT DAY....and stayed that way.....unitl......we just finished up stowing all the gear away....then the it was the rain and wind's turn once again!!!!!...but really appreciate their politely waiting with such grace and style until we were finished!!!!
